CCA 2010 Conference
Off the back of the work I did for the Changing Face of Letterpress exhibition last year Alex & Rose have asked me to produce some work for the CCA Conference,
I have based my work on a book I found, called ‘Design For Print’ which was printed in 1949. In the book there is discussion about the choices graduates face when leaving college and looking for work. I have based my work on a quote stating;
‘Every year the art schools of this country release some thousands of students into the Industry. Of these a small proportion will snatch a precarious livelihood as artist-designers, for advertisers or publishing houses. The larger proportion however will become teachers in order to teach their students how to become teachers. Whilst others pursue other professions, these facts make for sober reading.’
I suggest that the situation is much different for today’s graduates wishing to pursue a career in design. This project explores this concept as well as my personal fear as I am also about to graduate.
